Professor Bruno Dubois is one of the world's foremost experts on Alzheimer disease diagnosis and early detection. He founded and has led the IM2A — a national reference center for memory disorders — for over two decades. He is the architect of the IWG diagnostic criteria, first published in 2007 and updated in 2010, 2014, and 2024.
His work fundamentally reframed the prodromal phase of AD, establishing the "hippocampal amnestic syndrome" as a core clinical marker. He has authored over 500 peer-reviewed publications and received numerous international awards including the AAIC Lifetime Achievement Award.
Professor Nicolas Villain is a neurologist and researcher at IM2A, specializing in the cognitive neuroscience of aging and Alzheimer disease. His work bridges clinical phenotyping with advanced neuroimaging — particularly PET imaging of amyloid and tau — and the interpretation of biomarker results in real-world patient care.
He has led studies on the natural history of presymptomatic AD, the limits of biomarker-based prediction, and the clinical translation of imaging findings. He is co-first author of the 2024 JAMA Neurology paper alongside Dubois.
Professor Howard Feldman is Director of the Alzheimer's Disease Cooperative Study (ADCS) and Professor of Neurosciences at UC San Diego. He is a leading expert in Alzheimer clinical trials, disease-modifying therapies, and the translation of biomarker science into clinical practice.
His work has shaped the design of major AD treatment trials across North America and internationally. He has been a prominent voice on the appropriate use of diagnostic criteria in research and clinical settings, and is a longtime contributor to the IWG framework discussions.
Professor Giovanni B. Frisoni is Director of the Memory Center at Geneva University Hospitals and a leading expert in quantitative neuroimaging and biomarker-based diagnostics in dementia. His research focuses on the development and validation of imaging markers — MRI, FDG-PET, and amyloid PET — for early and accurate diagnosis.
He has led multiple large-scale European consortia on AD biomarker harmonization and developed standardized protocols adopted across centers worldwide. He is a co-author of the IWG criteria since 2007.
